HANKA HOMESTEAD is ACCEPTING NEW VOLUNTEERS and MEMBERS

The Hanka Homestead Association is accepting new volunteers. The Homestead, located in Askel, is a unique window into our local history. We presently have a cadre of helpful, friendly, and willing volunteers. However, the Association is in need of more people that are interested in local history and want to see that this local gem maintains its place as a viable place to visit and learn about our forebears.

Our volunteers do everything from repair buildings, perform lawn maintenance, provide in-kind labor for matching grants from the KNHP, lend their talents to Heritage Day in August, and provide guided tours from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day and then on Saturdays and Sundays in September and October. Each person usually volunteers 2-3 days per month.

Here is a chance to help maintain a local treasure and work with a group of willing and hard-working friends. We hold group and individual training sessions at the Homestead. For those interested in guiding tours, they will be partnered with an experienced guide for the first few times. Materials are provided explaining the history of the Hanka family, describing the buildings and their purposes, and giving tips and ideas.

We are a non-profit organization; all of our proceeds are utilized to maintain and improve the historical site, the Hanka Homestead Finnish Museum.

Call (906) 334-2575, see our Facebook page, or select the contact us button on this website, www.hankahomesteadmuseum.org.  and more info will be provided. Let us know if you are interested!
